What the free edition leaves out
Scroll sideways to view all columns →The free edition is genuinely usable, but some team or enterprise features need a paid plan. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.
| Feature | Free edition | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSO / SAML | Paid | The self-hosting pricing page lists Enterprise SSO (Okta, Microsoft Entra ID) and SSO enforcement as Enterprise features; it does not name SAML. | Source ↗ |
| Role-based access control | Free | Organization-level role-based access control is free; project-level RBAC is Enterprise only. | Source ↗ |
| Audit logs | Paid | Audit logs are listed as Enterprise only for self-hosted. | Source ↗ |
| Multi-user / teams | Free | Unlimited users and projects in the open-source plan; restricting who can create organizations is Enterprise only. | Source ↗ |
| Backups and restore | Not confirmed | Backup is not listed in the plan comparison, and the docs say the Docker Compose setup has no backups. Scheduled export is a data export, not a backup tool. | Source ↗ |
| API access | Free | The public API is included; the Admin, SCIM and Instance Management APIs are Enterprise only. | Source ↗ |
| Support SLA | Paid | The support SLA and a named lead support engineer are Enterprise only; open source gets community support. | Source ↗ |
Best for
Teams that want open-source LLM tracing, prompt management and evaluation with unlimited users and projects, and can run Postgres, ClickHouse, Redis and S3 themselves.
Why choose it over LangSmith
The core is MIT-licensed and self-hostable, and the free edition has unlimited users and projects plus SSO and organization-level access control. Self-hosting is an official, documented option with Kubernetes and cloud-provider guides.
Where it falls short
Self-hosting needs four stateful services plus two app containers, and the compose setup has no high availability, scaling or backups. Audit logs, project-level RBAC, the SCIM and admin APIs and a support SLA are paid Enterprise features. No built-in backup tooling is documented, so you own database backups.
